| Racehorse Ownership in Hong Kong |

The ownership of racehorses in Hong Kong is controlled by The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Only members of The Jockey Club are accorded with the privilege of owning racehorses. As there are many more aspiring owners than there are horses, owning a racehorse, therefore, depends very much on the luck of the draw. The Jockey Club operates a ballot system under which members who are desirous of importing racehorses to race in Hong Kong are requested every racing season to submit applications for permits to import either a "privately purchased horse" ("PP") or a "privately purchased griffin" ("PPG") to Hong Kong. A "PP" is a previously raced horse while a "PPG" is one which is imported to Hong Kong unraced.
Both "PPs" or "PPGs" may be imported from countries stipulated by the Jockey Club.
Ownership of racehorses in Hong Kong can take the form of either sole ownership, partnership or as a syndicate. A partnership comprises not less than 2 and more than 4 partners. A syndicate must have not less than 5 and not more than 50 members.
